The Bill Dixon designed centre cockpit Moody 376 has a powerful hull and gives excellent all round sailing performance.
Accommodation is very good indeed with a particularly large owners cabin with double berth, settee seating area and an en-suite heads. The saloon is huge with a large dinning area and the galley is secure and very workable at sea. The forward cabin also features an en-suite head and an additional berth can be found in the aft cabin passageway.
Well built, the 376 continues to be in demand and makes a great family cruiser or is ideal for extended live aboard voyaging.
This sought after scheel keel example has had just two owners from new, and has been in her present UK ownership for over twenty years.
She has been cruised in the Mediterranean and wintered ashore with a comprehensive maintenance programme.

Forward heads compartment complete with shower, shower curtain, & electric pumped discharge, wash hand basin, hot & cold water. Toilet bowl connected via three way Y-valve to polypropylene holding tank with Wema level gauge & deck fittings for pump-out and rinse, plus electric macerator pump for offshore discharge to sea. New Jabsco heads pump fitted 2015, macerator overhauled 2010. Piping routinely descaled annually.

L-shaped galley with gimballed cooker, hob, & grill. Top-access air-cooled refrigerator with freezer compartment, insulated locker and food storage lockers. Double SS sink with pumped hot & cold water to mixer tap. Second manual fresh water pump. Two Gaz cylinders in port side deck locker fitted with solenoid activated shut-off valve with interior switch in galley. Aluminium refillable gas bottles purchased 2009 and now in use. (Original Gaz bottles in storage).
New in 2002. Kemp Sails “Performance Cruise Premium” fully battened main (five battens & three slab reefs) and furling headsail (new UV strip 2012); Frederiksen ball bearing “Batten Car System series 050” luff cars (a.k.a. Ronstan Series 19); lazy jacks with Kemp Sails “Packaway” cover system.
Cruising Chute and orange storm sail (tested but never used).
RIGGING AND SPARS:
Original Kemp (Selden) spars/10mm Stainless Steel standing rigging with Selden rod kicker (gas strut) and Rotostay II headsail gear (Rebuilt 2012). Removable second forestay, with Wichard tensioner & deck plates, for storm sail. Telescopic bearing-out pole. Rig surveyed and tuned 2017 by local specialist.

Seven Lewmar winches (all overhauled 2017).
GROUND TACKLE AND WINDLASS:
20Kg “Rocna” anchor (new 2013) with SS swivel connected to 60m of 8mm chain. “Horizon” electric, reversible anchor windlass with deck foot controls and cockpit repeater controls (2002). Danforth kedge anchor with 5m chain and 45m “Anchorlina” webbing warp on drum attached to pushpit.
PROP/ ROPE CUTTER:
Twin fixed blade prop (original); rope cutters fitted from new.
Two 120 amp-hour domestic batteries (new 2014) linked to both a Sterling “smart” charger and to two after-deck mounted Siemens Sunware solar panels. “Battman” battery management system. Separate engine cranking battery. Full suite of navigation lights, deck light, steaming light, LED anchor light, tri-colour at masthead.
Three independent GPS navigators (MLR 412 dGPS & two Raymarine).
Raymarine Radar & Plotter (Pathfinder “Plus” RL70C, C-Map charts), all NMEA linked.

New in 2015. Lodestar Ultralight 250 4-man inflatable, with inflatable floor, mounted on SS stern davits. Suzuki 2.5HP four-stroke outboard (new in 2016). Little used.
Thornycroft T80D 4 cylinder normally aspirated fresh-water cooled diesel engine with Hurth HBW 100-2R gearbox (renewed 2011) and Volvo cable controls. Seawater heat exchanger with “Speedseal” cover to seawater pump. Calorifier provides hot water to two heads and galley. Extra Racor primary fuel filter/water separator. Separate independent cranking battery with emergency parallel switch to domestics; “Sterling” four stage smart charger. Second starting position in engine room. All fuel has been treated with biocide since 1996. Excellent access to engine room from both sides.
Eberspacher ducted warm air heating to all cabins, thermostatic control. (Tested annually but rarely used since 2000).

I purchased “Avocet” from her first owner in October 1996. Prior to that time I understand the she was cruised lightly in the English Channel with occasional cruises to Holland and France. We did similar for three seasons and then took her with Rally Portugal to Lagos on the Algarve in June 2000, wintering ashore in Vilamoura, Portugal.
2001 - cruised via Gibraltar to the Spanish Costa Blanca, wintering afloat in Campello near Alicante.
2002 - cruised the Balearics wintering ashore in Mahon, Menorca.
2003 - cruised to the Costa Brava, and the French Provence coast, wintering in Port Napoleon (near Marseille).
2004 - cruised the French and Italian Rivieras, incl. Cruising Association “Rallye d’Azur” wintering ashore in the River Tiber, Rome.
2005 - cruised W coast of Italy, Sicily, and Adriatic coast of Italy arriving Croatia August 2005. Wintered ashore in Croatia (Marina Dalmacija).
2006 - cruised Dalmatian islands, remained in Croatia for a second winter ashore.
2007 - cruised Croatian coast to Istria & back to Marina Dalmacija. Wintered ashore there.
2008 – remained in Croatia, berthed at Marina Dalmacija near Zadar (served by frequent flights from Stansted by Ryanair. The marina is only 5 Km from the airport).
2009 to present – remains in Croatia based at Marina Dalmacija, nr. Zadar; always ashore in the winter.
“Avocet” has never been sailed in bad weather. We have much preferred to bide our time and await good winds. Maintenance has always been a priority so, as a consequence, she is in remarkably good order and fully equipped for comfortable, safe, Mediterranean cruising. Her rig and equipment allow for a couple to sail her with ease. We are now retiring from sailing after 40+ years.
