The Skookum 53 is an immensely strong pilot house cruising ketch built in the USA and designed for extended periods offshore.

This particular example was launched in 1976 but had a huge £500k luxury re-fit in the mid nineties, with all of her systems and interior replaced, followed by a programme of continuous upgrades and most recently a further re-fit including an extensive rig makeover in 2012 by Southampton Yacht Services and the Rig Shop in Southampton.

She is deemed VAT paid in Europe and is certified RCD exempt by CE Proof.

Stunning to look at both on deck and below she positively glows with all her highly polished stainless steel fittings (including a unique gimballed helmsman's seat) and beautifully varnished interior woodwork .

Laid out with an impressive double master stateroom aft and two further sleeping cabins she is capable of sleeping up to 10 in comfort.

Bright and airy below, there are two separate dining areas and a huge very workable galley and an inside steering position.

Topsides two Profurl Furlers, an Andersen 58ST Electric Winch, a Vetus Hydraulic 10HP Bow Thruster and an outside steering position assist with short-handed sailing.

A recent insurance survey is available on request.

OWNERS COMMENTS
Spacious family blue water cruiser or live aboard with potential for skippered charter or high latitude adventuring.

First launched in 1976, Persistence underwent an £500k/14,000 hour rebuild in the mid nineties during which almost everything was replaced, including the interior, with the best available. She’s been much updated since too, with the most recent pit stop in 2012 which included an extensive rig makeover.

Built for the waters of the Pacific Northwest, Skookum 53s are widely respected in US cruising circles for their ruggedness, strength and sea-keeping. Persistence oodles quality and is, by far, the best equipped Skookum 53 anywhere, hence admired wherever she goes.

She’s had only three owners since first launched and is now set-up up for comfortable short-handed cruising and independent living at anchor for long periods. With her wide choice of easily deployable sail combinations she sails well too, even in lighter airs.

Persistence truly is a long distance ‘go anywhere’ blue water cruiser ready to cross more oceans.
