Well known and much admired by us, we are delighted that the 74ft Schooner “Wild Knight” is back on our books for a second time.
She is a very high quality Ferro-Cement build, with a beautiful bespoke wooden interior and a wonderful history.
63 feet on deck with a draft of 8ft 6 and a beam of 15ft 6 she is sea kindly and comfortable and will cruise at 8 to 10 knots under sail.
Her husband and wife crew tell me they have seen 11.5kts on GPS over the ground with the lower square sail and four other sails set; easily managed by just them, and recently saw 12.5kts coming past the Needles with tide.
She also cruises under engine at 7kts at 2,000 rpm in calm conditions. and will 2 sail (short-handed) motor sail at 9-10 kts
Although classical in looks and design, she is full of modern and practical additions.
Extensively re-fitted by her previous owners through 2006 - 20011 , since then her current owners have added even more improvements including:
- New bow-thruster
- New 5 blade feathering Max Prop
- New 4 kw genset
- New/modern deck hatches
- New 'master' head/shower....now more akin to a bathroom in a studio flat!
- Modernisation of the galley area including professionally reconditioned Force 10 Cooker and new large upright, low power, fridge.
- New cushions through-out.
- Re-purposed alloy square sail spars (excellent weight reduction aloft; easy re/de-rigging/stowing on deck)
- Masts lifted out and professionally checked
- Square sails replaced with much lighter, more easily managed equivalent
- Considerable re-rigging
- Modernisation of navigation set-up (GPS/satnav at the helm)
- Recent re-faired and epoxied bottom and repainted topsides.
- New prop shaft bearings with maintenance-free mid-shaft bearing and water lubrication to the cutlass bearing on a feed from the engine raw water system.
Lying Cowes - Isle of Wight

OWNERS COMMENTS:
I'm a lifetime sailor (and UK yachting Olympian); my wife is a serial interior designer. We wanted a boat that would provide all the comforts of a second home when 'parked', but that we could sail safely and enjoyably double-handed, reaching hull speed (9 - 10 kts.) relatively easily when on the move. We deemed a cozy pilot-house to be mandatory, anchored or at sea, in British weather. Like you (?) I was skeptical of ferro-cement and did a load of research before buying Wild Knight. For reasons I could bore you to death with, I'm no longer skeptical; she has served us very well indeed.
